Static and dynamic calibration are different procedures.
Static calibration generally positions the vehicle in a controlled space and uses precisely measured targets. The procedure can specify floor conditions, lighting, vehicle alignment, tire pressure, fuel level, target distance, target height, and diagnostic steps.
Dynamic calibration generally uses a prescribed road drive while diagnostic equipment communicates with the vehicle. Speed, road markings, weather, traffic, and route conditions can affect whether the procedure can be completed. Some vehicles require one method, while others require both.
Calibration is a procedure with a result—not a checkbox.
A complete workflow identifies the system, prepares the vehicle, reviews relevant diagnostic faults, performs the required calibration method, and verifies the reported result. A warning light alone does not tell the entire story, and the absence of a warning light does not replace the prescribed procedure.
If unrelated faults, alignment issues, damaged brackets, unsuitable road conditions, or other vehicle conditions prevent completion, those limits should be explained before the vehicle is handed back.
What to mention when requesting windshield service.
Tell the glass provider about visible cameras or sensor housings near the rearview mirror, current dashboard messages, lane-assistance features, and any recent collision, alignment, suspension, or windshield work. These details do not replace vehicle identification, but they help flag calibration questions early.
