The visible impact point is only part of the inspection. We also look at radiating cracks, depth, moisture or debris, proximity to the edge, previous repairs, and whether the damage interferes with the driver’s view or a windshield-mounted camera.
Damage that is extensive, spreading, deeply layered, edge-adjacent, or otherwise unsuitable for a dependable repair may require windshield replacement instead.

A qualifying resin repair addresses a limited damaged area without removing the windshield. Replacement becomes the better path when inspection shows the damage cannot be stabilized dependably.

The repair process
The exact setup varies with the chip pattern and windshield condition, but the purpose remains the same: remove trapped air where possible, fill the damaged area, and cure the repair.
Confirm the damage is a reasonable repair candidate and document its condition before work begins.
Clean and prepare the impact area so the repair equipment can be positioned over the damage.
Introduce repair resin under controlled pressure or vacuum, cure it, and finish the surface.
What repair can and cannot do
The primary goal is to stabilize qualifying damage and reduce the chance of further spreading—not to make every visual mark disappear.
The original impact point, trapped contamination, and portions of the break can remain visible after a completed repair.

Avoid pressing on the damaged area. If practical, keep loose debris and moisture away from the impact point, then photograph the damage from inside and outside with a familiar object nearby for scale.
